The self-sufficiency of Shalin Nariya 's Pokémon was amazing. Despite their trainer being missing for six weeks, the myriad of saddled Pokémon lived their lives like wild Pokémon. The vast fields were upkept by herbivorous Pokémon grazing, while the carnivorous ones sought prey from the surrounding lands. ollie morales had brought to Josh's attention that this was causing a major environmental disruption in Petalburg Woods and the areas surrounding it. On top of that, the unattended Pokémon would be a goldmine for Rockets. He wouldn't be surprised if there were already some unaccounted for.

The Head Ranger had authorized the deactivation and decoupling of the Poké Balls containing Shalin's Pokémon, so that they could be recaptured and taken to Elise Calcifet 's ranch for safekeeping. Several Rangers, including newcomer minjun hak , had been assigned to the task, and it was a gargantuan one. The jailed Petalburg Captain was in possession of nearly a hundred Pokémon. "Elite Ranger Devlin, but please, you can call me Josh," the commanding Ranger introduced himself and his Illumina Pyroar steed, Kovu. If minjun hak desired, he would be seated on one of the other ten Pyroar Josh had brought with him. Though most of their saddles were occupied with Cadet and Rookie Rangers, a few were vacant. "Had to bring quite a bit of Mauville's force here. Our goal is to round up and capture all of Shalin's Pokémon, then get them to Captain Elise Calcifet in Rustboro City. I'm going to be sending you a list of Shalin's entire roster - mark them off once you catch them. They shouldn't put up any resistance when they see us."

"josh, it's an honor to work alongside you. please call me minjun." the other's reputation precedes him, as do many more of his fellow rangers. yet the moment initial pleasantries are exchanged, his smile fades into knife-like precision. a dark gaze travels over the vast fields laid before them, the sounds of re-capturing echoing in the distance. it truly is a testament to shalin nariya's dedication as a pokemon trainer. nearly one hundred pokemon, all cared and raised with purpose. yet with their trainer gone (i hope she can be safely returned to us), it was up to rangers like minjun to round them up. knowing they'll be in captain elise's care puts him at ease. he just hopes he can do his part like everyone else. [break][break]

"understood. i'll do my best to catch as many as i can." a task which he suspects will go much easier with josh's pyroar at their sides. or in this case, beneath their saddles. [break][break]

The list Josh emailed to Minjun and the rest of the Ranger team was staggering: it contained eighty-nine Pokémon. "A pleasure to meet you too, Minjun," he waved, reaching for a handshake being too awkward. The speed that the lions offered would make traversing the vast grounds less of a headache. "Did you bring any water Pokémon with you? You will probably need one if you want to catch any of the ones swimming in the lake. Otherwise, I can reach out to our colleagues to see who brought them."

With a small sack of Poké Balls hanging from the Pyroar's side, Josh was ready. Sticking to the ground ones for the time being, he rode toward the giant, hollow tree Shalin made her humble abode, its wooden doors locked on both the upper and lower levels. Collected near some low-lying branches were all eight of Shalin's Shiny Eeveelutions, each the size of a small horse. Smelling Kovu's familiar scent, they crowded around the slightly bigger lion, the Gym Leader in awe. He thought he was the only person in Hoenn that had a full set of the adorable, yet swift, Pokémon in such a size. Not only did Shalin have one, too, but hers all possessed the recessive genetic code that made their fur sheen the rare color before him. Tinder and Volt reared in an effort to embrace Josh. "Easy, you two!" the Pyroar's rider protested, Kovu growling as the green Jolteon's claw nicked him.

Josh gently dropped empty Poké Balls onto all eight of them, putting them in a separate sack hanging from the normal-type's other side. "Minjun, it's Josh," he radioed after updating the document with his captures. "Secured all the Eevee-line Pokémon near her house. What's your status? Over."

"unfortunately, i hadn't had time to secure a water-type for myself, but i'm happy to help elsewhere." minjun had yet to catch a variety of pokemon, in all honesty, water-types prime among them. yet he will work hard to cover the weaknesses of his own person, anyway.[break][break]
then, as he searches through the extensive fields, minjun comes across an arbok, tyranitar, boltund, and girafarig, the four of them wandering about in the grass. it takes some doing, but as he approaches the pokemon, they are mostly willing to be re-captured once more. he wonders if they miss shalin terribly. he thinks about their sheer size, and wonders how they'd been able to grow this large to start with. nature truly is a marvel. [break][break]
as he sets upon catching them, he receives a message from none other than the elite ranger himself. "josh, minjun here. caught her boltund, girafarig, arbok, and tyranitar. going to circle through more of the fields to find more pokemon, over."[break][break]

As Josh stashed away the Poké Balls, he heard that minjun hak was making excellent progress on his end, as well as his other colleagues. They had already rounded up a little under half of the girl's Pokémon. "Wonderful. Will rendezvous at your location, over and out." The lion galloped toward the lake area that the other Ranger was near, watching a Seismitoad pop out of the water, its saddle anchored around the bumps on its back. A Dragalge also surfaced, Josh admiring the engineering work needed for a saddle to be both comfortable and effective for both such a lithe creature and its rider.

"As much as I love the work she does, Shalin can be a bit... messed up in the head," Josh admitted as he retrieved empty Poké Balls to tap the aquatic types with once they came toward the shallows. "Look at that Seismitoad. I wouldn't want to sit in that saddle - that would mess up my insides so much!" As if to drive the point home, Bass Boost turned around to face the two and rumbled his back, creating a disturbance that caused several more of the Captain's aquatic Pokémon to surface. "Not gonna lie, I'm jealous of how self-sufficient her Pokémon are..." he mused as Kovu walked toward the lake's edge, Josh tapping Bass Boost and Pharika with Poké Balls.
